Frequently Asked Questions

Who can receive hospice?

People with terminal illnesses can receive hospice care. Hospice care is medical care given to patients who are expected to live for six months or less as certified by the patient’s physician. Patients who receive hospice care can live better and longer because hospice manages pain and symptoms caused by life-threatening illnesses. Hospice care also benefits the patient’s family members because it allows them an opportunity to recuperate and rest. Family members can find support, comfort and peace through the hospice experience as hospice care prepares them for their loved one’s death.

We are guests in your home.  Our goal is to be a help and a resource and not invade your privacy.  Each care plan is built individually by taking your needs into consideration. Visit frequencies and days are discussed and assigned based on your needs.  Medical equipment is discussed and provided based on individual needs. Our goal is to meet the patient and family goals of care and make the transition as easy and seamless as possible – so that the time you have left together is as meaningful and memorable as possible.

We understand that receiving a terminal illness diagnosis or someone mentioning the “hospice” word may completely upset life goals, not just for the patient, but for the whole family. Hospice care allows the patient and family to shift perspective and focus on goals revolving around the quality of life rather than quantity of life.

Therapy isn’t just for home health. Although physical, occupational, and speech therapy services traditionally focus on rehabilitation or recovery following an illness, injury or surgery, there is an opportunity for therapists to serve a small but important role on a hospice and palliative care team. It is understood that hospice and palliative care patients will not make improvements in the same manner as home health patients. However, the strategic use of therapy services with these patients can help slow the decline of functional ability and help preserve the patient’s sense of self-worth. We assess each patient and situation individually and discuss goals of care to ensure we are doing what’s best for the patient.
